[Artist Of The Week] Britney Spears - Top 7 Albums

Britney Spears - Top 7 Albums

And why is it a top 7 instead of a top 5? Because Britney Spears has released, to date, 7 studio albums (plus some greatest hits and remix albums) and I want to tell you which are favorites and my least favorites. If I did a top 5, two of the albums wouldn’t be here and… I mean… It’s just not cool… So here it is!

7 - Femme Fatale (2011)

(Funny how this is her 7th studio album and on the 7th position on her top 7… Oh well… )

For me this is, without a doubt, the worst album of Britney’s career. It’s a CD full of dance, super-generic tracks. It’s like when you’re in a club dancing to a song you don’t even like or care about knowing who’s the artist behind it, you just want to dance and have some fun. That’s the impression I got from Femme Fatale. For some reason, I get the feeling that the general public actually liked it. However, in the middle of the disaster, there’s a light! More than one, actually:

Hold It Against Me
Inside Out
Criminal
He About To Lose Me
Don’t Keep Me Waiting

These are great… Hold It Against Me, Inside Out, Criminal and Don’t Keep Me Waiting are great; He About To Lose Me is flawless.

Still, it doesn’t make up for the album…

Note: It is rumored that this album’s musical direction was completely changed by Britney’s managers. She had an idea of what she wanted the album to be like but, at the last minute, all of that was changed for unknown reasons and that’s how we got Dr. Luke’s debut album “Femme Fatale”…

6 - Britney (2001)

“Britney” is not a bad album, it’s not like Femme Fatale, it’s just… Well… it’s not as good as the other 5…
Some songs are great, others aren’t that great. I’m a Slave 4U is one of the best songs in the album and that’s why it was chosen as the 1st single. Plus, we will never forget that iconic VMA performance where she dances with a real snake on her shoulders!

Overprotected, Boys, Before The Goodbye and Cinderella are also very good.

To be honest, the only song of this album I don’t really like is Anticipating. It sounds like a strawberry bubblegum regurgitated by a girl made of cotton candy. “Bubblegum Pop”. I don’t like it. Sorry.

5 - Baby One More Time (1999)

To tell you the truth, “Baby One More Time” is on 5th place because it’s old. This album was released nearly 15 years ago and for that reason my connection with it is not as bigger as my connection with more recent album. My favorite songs would be probably Baby One More Time, (You Drive Me) Crazy, Born To Make You Happy, From The Bottom Of My Broken Heart and I Will Still Love You.

Also, “Baby One More Time” is one of the two albums in which Britney shows her great vocal ability.

4 - Oops!... I Did It Again (2000)

Once again, we have the time factor. However, “Oops!... I Did It Again” is definitely better than “Baby One More Time”. The songs are better and the vocals are just as good. I would say the best songs are Stronger (best song in the album, by the way), Oops! I Did It Again, Don’t Let Me Be The Last To Know, Lucky, (I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction, Lucky, What You See (Is What You Get), Where Are You Now and Don’t Go Knocking On My Door.

There are no bad songs in the album, some are just better than others.

3 - Circus (2008)

Some fans don’t really like this album. I love it. I really enjoyed its sound, it’s very cool and cute but (thank God) not bubblegum-pop-ish.

Best songs: Circus, Kill The Lights, Shattered Glass, If U Seek Amy, Blur, Unusual You, Mannequin, Amnesia and Phonograph.

Obs.: The “remake” of Radar was excused…

2 - In The Zone (2003)

“In The Zone” has a very unique and sexy sound that makes you want to dance and have sex while you’re listening to it! When you listen to The Hook Up or Me Against the Music you get this feeling that makes want to get up and dance! Breathe On Me and Touch Of My Hand are more like a sex anthem. They’re really smooth and have a really sexy sound! They’re perfect! In 15 tracks, only (I Got That) Boom Boom and Don’t Hang Up were excused. All of the other songs left their mark.

My personal favorites: Toxic, Everytime, Outrageous, Breathe On Me, Touch Of My Hand, The Answer, The Hook Up, Showdown and Me Against The Music.

1 - Blackout (2007)

One word: Perfection.

ALL of the songs in the album are flawless! No exceptions! Too bad this album didn’t get the amount of promotion it needed. However, Blackout left its mark with songs like Gimme More (who doesn’t remember that disastrous/iconic performance at the VMAs?!), Piece Of Me and Break The Ice. These were the 3 singles taken from the album. Unfortunately it didn’t have more due to the state Britney’s health was in. What a shame… In my opinion, “Blackout” could have been HUGE, when it came out it was so fresh and new!! To be honest it still sounds fresh and that is why this is such a good album. The same happens with “In The Zone”.

I don’t have any favorite or least favorite tracks, I love them all.

“Blackout” is definitely one of my favorite albums of all time.
