[Album Review] Ivy Levan - "Introducing The Dame"

Introducing Ivy Levan

Ivy Levan is a new promising singer in the music industry. The 26 year old performer has released several songs over the years, like “Empty” or “Birdie”, but only now she had the opportunity to put out her debut EP with 4 new and great songs!

Ivy puts her big, powerful voice and sassy delivery in a style of music she calls “swamp-hop” – a style created in 1950/1960 that combines New Orleans-style rhythm and blues, country and western, and traditional French Louisiana musical influences.

[Review] Ivy Levan - “Introducing The Dame” (EP)

“Introducing the Dame” is Ivy’s debut EP that includes four great tracks. All of them all really fun and have a 50s vibe that I absolutely love!

1 - Money

“Money” is a very fun and funky track. The chorus is very catchy and the whole thing reminds us of those divas from the 50’s that used to sing in classy bars in NYC while snapping their fingers to the rhythm of the song.
“Cash is everything I need so show me the money!
Cash is everything I need so give it to me honey
What you see, is what you get

And you ain’t seen nothin’ yet”

2 - Hot Damn

“Hot Damn” is the 1st single taken from this EP. It still has the 50s vibe but I think it’s a little more commercial than Money. Ivy’s vocals are great and the beat is really fun. In the video you can also see the influence that the 50s have in this artist style through her clothes and hair. In the end you can actually see the singer in a black dress that makes her look like an “old-school diva”!

“These fools try to stick me for my paper
Damn, these fools won’t leave me aloneHot damnThese fools try to stick me for my paper
Damn, these fools won’t leave me alone
From New York to LAAnd every single day I say
Hot damn! These fools try to stick me for my paper
Damn, these fools won’t leave me, leave me alone.
Hey”

3 - I Don't Wanna Wake Up

In this song Ivy complains about how much she drunk the night before. I find this song to be quite amazing because it really takes us back in time. When you listen to it is like you’re listening to Aretha Franklin or Etta James.
“I don’t wanna wake up
No not today
Got all fucked up
I got hell to pay
I don’t wanna wake up
No not today
I told you once I told you twice
Now let me sleep my blues away”

4 - Hang Forever

“Hang Forever” gives more like a Marilyn Monroe feeling. Also, it sound like a mix between music from the 50s and today’s summer songs.
Oh, and once you listen to it you’ll be all like…
“(…) Gonna hang together,Gonna Hang Forever,Gonna Hang Forever!”

The chorus is really catchy...
